Board Game Picker

Three taps. Your game for tonight.

3 taps to your game

1 of 3 · How many of you are playing?

How it works

Answer three questions: how many of you are playing, how long you’ve got, and what mood you’re in. The picker shows one match with why it suits tonight, how long it takes, and a link to the guide where we wrote about it. Not feeling it? Tap Another match. Every game comes from our own board game guides, so there are no random recommendations.

Picks for two players

  • Chill: Cascadia, Calico, Harmonies, That’s Pretty Clever
  • Competitive: 7 Wonders Duel, Jaipur, Patchwork, Hive, Splendor Duel
  • Co-op: Codenames Duet, Sky Team, The Crew, Hanabi
  • Under 20 minutes: Codenames Duet, Hive, Boop, Klask, Star Realms
  • A whole evening: Everdell, Targi, Pandemic Legacy: Season 1

Picks for three or four players

Games like Azul, Kingdomino and Splendor work at every count, while Codenames, Ticket to Ride and Catan come alive at four. For a group that would rather work together, Pandemic and Forbidden Island put everyone on the same side.

How to choose a game for tonight

  • Mood first, then the game. A tired Tuesday needs a different game from a free Saturday.
  • Teach it in five minutes. Long rule explanations kill a weeknight.
  • Co-op for tense weeks. Playing on the same side is a nice reset.
  • Keep a quick one for “one more round”. The best nights often end on a rematch.

Our full board game guides

The picker is the quick answer. For the reasons behind each pick, read our guides: board games for couples (29 games by mood), 2 player board games (22 games for two) and board games for 2–4 players (26 games that scale).

Questions people ask

Is the board game picker free?

Yes. It’s free and has no sign-up. It recommends games; it doesn’t sell them.

Where do the recommendations come from?

Only from the games in our three board game guides.

What if no game fits all three answers?

The picker always shows the closest fit. If it can’t find one, change the mood or the time and try again.

Does it cover big groups?

It’s built for two to four players. For bigger groups, try the Point Game or Fingers Down in the Bonded Arcade.
